What is the size of your event?
Firstly, you need to have an idea of how many attendees you’re expecting, as this is the benchmark for deciding how many portable toilets you’ll need for your event. Your eventgoers don’t want to spend too long queuing for the loo, so make sure you have enough event portable toilets to provide the best experience possible.
Surprisingly, you should also consider the ratio between men and women at your event. Some evidence suggests women use the toilet more than men, and therefore require additional toilet facilities. How many portable toilets are needed per person?
To work out how many event portable toilets you may require per person, a standard equation would be: If your event is looking to run for under 6 hours without refreshments, then you may only require 1 portable toilet per 100 women and 1 portable toilet per 500 men. As for urinals, 1 unit per 150 men would be suitable.
If your event is longer than 6 hours, again, with no refreshments, a good estimate would be 1 portable toilet per 85 women and 1 portable toilet per 425 men. For urinals, 1 unit per 125 men will be required.
For events such festivals and sporting events, where you expect guests to attend your event for longer than 6 hours, and even over several days, and are providing food and drink, you will need to add 15-25% more toilets.
As a guideline, for large events, there should be 1 portable toilet for every 75 women, and one portable toilet for every 400 men.
Variables affecting the number of portable toilets
Type of Event
The overall type of event, and if you’re providing refreshments will drastically change the need for more or less portable toilets. For events as simple as picking pumpkins, this will be a fairly ‘short’ event, which will see people come and go at their leisure.
For music festivals, you have a different set of people who are eating and drinking with intent, and are not leaving the area within a few hours, and therefore, you will need to provide a larger number of portable toilet rentals.
Size of Venue
If your event is set within a large field that we traditionally see for festivals, for example, naturally you will require a larger volume of portable toilets, which are placed in different areas around the festival to prevent large crowds gathering in a single spot.
However, if you’re venue is much smaller and catering to a smaller number of people, you can hold a small amount of portable toilets in one spot to keep them away from any kitchen or socialising areas.
